Nothing didn’t announce any new products at MWC 2023, but its CEO Carl Pei’s keynote address did spark some buzz. The executive mentioned the first details of the Nothing Phone 2, as well as hinting at the launch of a mysterious new device.
Pei revealed that the brand’s next phone will feature a Snapdragon 8-series processor. The announcement was made in conjunction with Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon:
In practice, this means that the new generation should have more advanced performance, possibly on par with other high-end models that carry the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 or 8 Gen 2. For comparison, the Nothing Phone 1 has an intermediate Snapdragon 778G Plus.
Other details about the device have not been cited so far, but Pei indicated that it is already in full development. So one can imagine that more details will emerge over the coming weeks.
According to previously published rumors, Nothing’s new model may arrive with 12 GB of RAM, and 256 GB internal storage. Its screen would have AMOLED technology, with support for refresh rates at 120 Hz.
In addition, the device should gain a 5,000 mAh battery, a larger capacity than the current 4,500 mAh tank. However, except for the first processor details, the information still lacks official confirmation.
Nothing plans “mystery product
At the same conference held during MWC, Carl Pei pointed out that Nothing has a surprise prepared for this March. However, he was cautious and did not reveal any details about the item.
In addition to the new Nothing Phone, the company has at least two more products in the pipeline for 2023: the Nothing Ear 2 and Ear Stick 2 headphones. However, they are not mysterious new products, as they should only bring occasional updates to their predecessors.
However, previous news has already pointed to the possibility of Nothing launching a completely new line of headphones, called “Particles By XO”. The product is expected to have a “peanut” shaped construction and may have sales aimed at the US market.
It is not yet possible to say whether this is Carl Pei’s mystery product, but the possibility exists. As is traditional with Nothing releases, several details and teasers should be posted on the brand’s social networks before the official launch over the next few weeks.
